What it actually proves

That your LLC exists, is active on the Department of State's records, and has filed what it owes. That is all. It is not a credit check and says nothing about your finances. It is asked for whenever someone needs to know your company is real and current:

• opening or reviewing a business bank account,
• a loan, line of credit, or investor diligence,
• signing a commercial lease,
• registering your New York LLC to do business in another state,
• certain licences, insurance policies and government contracts.

If yours was refused, this is almost always why

New York will not issue a Certificate of Status to an entity that is past due on its Biennial Statement. If you have been refused, or if you know you have missed one, file that first: it costs $9, carries no late fee, and clears the block immediately.

Check whether your Biennial Statement is due before ordering. If it turns out you are behind, we would rather tell you now than sell you a certificate the state will refuse.

New York sells its own expedited processing. We pass it through at the state's price and add nothing:

Most filing services fold expedite into a bigger headline number, which is why the same document costs $100 or more elsewhere. Ours stays $49 whichever you pick.

You can order one yourself

The Department of State sells these directly. If you have your DOS ID and ten minutes, do that and keep the $49. We would rather say so than pretend the filing is hard.
